"You deserved the Conde' Nast award. Congratulations, and thanks for making Northern Arizona a better place. For dedicating you talents here - when you could most obviously have done it anywhere. "

- John B.

" Our friends ... told us about the wonderful La Posada, when we went there we were thrilled to find that they had such a gem of a restaurant , one that was even written up in the New York Times. We are vegetarians and we enjoyed food that was beyond compare - and vegetarian. After we finished our first meal at The Turquoise Room my husband said these words to John. "John, you just might be the best chef in the whole world. "

- Dharam K.

" We have been known to drive from Kingman just to have breakfast or dinner at your establishment. We consider the Turquoise Room and La Posada to be destinations where we can "get well". "

" My husband and I visited for the first time in 1998 when there were only a few rooms. La Posada was not even officially open yet. We stumbled upon it while traveling the entire route 66. We stayed the night and could not wait to return We returned again in 2000 and there was talk of a restaurant to come. We then told our friends from LA CA to stay on their way east a few years later. They did and said that there was a great restaurant there now. We then made a special trip in 2005 to see La Posada for the 3rd time and ate in The Turquoise Room. Oh how wonderful it is. Now we are planning another trip out west and are planning a detour stop at La Posada and The Turquoise Room in Jan. I hope to make it there. Happy Thanksgiving We are so grateful to all those involved in saving La Posada "

- Bob & Loretta K.

" Congratulations on your continued, and well-deserved, successes. I eagerly look forward to my next trip to Winslow so I can again partake of your epicurean delights. "

- Sam L.

"MANY congratulations on all your well deserved success! My husband and I are great ambassadors of your Turquoise Room having had THE BEST dinner and breakfast that we have ever had there. Yum! We frequently travel back and forth on Amtrak between Los Angeles and Albuquerque and tell everyone who will listen along the way! ;-) "

- Tracy W. & Brian P.

" We were doing a cross country trip with some punchlist hotspots when we passed through Winslow last June. When we pulled into town the people at the visitor's center said the La Posada was the place to stay. The hotel is indeed fabulous but the eatery is outstanding. We did two nights, had two breakfasts, two evening meals, and a box lunch to take for our excursios to The Petrified Forest and Meteor Crator. Can't say enough about the quality of the meals, attention of the staff, the atmosphere, the experience. We now have reason to stop the next time we are on I40. "

- Susan & Dwight D.

"[John], We did not have the pleasure of meeting you at our recent stay at La Posada but we did stay there because of the excellent lunch we had on our way to Santa Fe.  After dinner, breakfast and lunch that were taste delights, the freshness and exquisite preparations are lingering.  I am a food professional and IACP member (International Assoc. of Cooking Professionals) and will certainly spread the word.  Your website and newsletter are wonderful ---my mouth is watering for the squash blossoms you mentioned.  We can't replicate the uniquely delicious Hopi Piki Bread but look forward to our next visit and taste opportunity. We now own the cookbook so that I can make the sweet corn tamale specifically.  Keep up the high quality standards and delicious flavors. "

- Vicki P.

" I can't wait to return. I loved LaPosada and I loved the dining in The Turquoise Room. Additionally I had one of the best martinis ever in the ambiance filled bar! Thanks for everything about LaPosada!!!! "

- Kaarin C.

" My wife and I planned a week of travel with the La Posada as the last stop. What a stop it was. Great place, nice staff, clean room and what can you say about the Turquoise Room. The best praise is ‘We will be back again and again.’ "

- Bob and Sue Z.

" What a GREAT find. We left Sedona too early for breakfast, planning to pick up something along the way. Noting the size of Winslow, we decided to try there. We were so surprised to find La Posada and the Turquoise Room. The food was incredibly delicious, service was perfect and the atmosphere elegant. Our only regret is that you are so far from Maryland! We will tell everyone about you, and maybe find our way back. Kudos to the chef and Harvey Girls. "

- Linda & Jeff L.

"We stayed at the La Posada several weeks ago and thoroughly enjoyed it. We had heard about the hotel but did not realize there was such an outstanding restaurant as well. Each meal was a treat and the service was excellent. We also enjoyed chatting with you as we were being seated. Normally my wife is the soup lover and I get a salad. But after trying hers, I had to order your signature soup both nights. We loved your southwestern fare and my wife ranked the enchiladas near the top of her list. ...We also appreciate your hospitality towards our Bassett Hound, who was able to join us one morning for breakfast in the lounge. You and Alan have created a wonderful oasis in Winslow and we are looking forward to our return. I think next time we'll arrive by train and just enjoy the hotel for a day or two before continuing west. We look forward to returning next summer. "

- Mike A.

" The food at the Turquoise Room is as good as the margaritas - both made with love. The experience is made by the surroundings - beautiful building and evocative train noises. A must visit place in SW USA. "

- Ashley V.

"I had the pleasure of touring the hotel this summer when we were staying in Flagstaff. Then my husband and I drove over again just for lunch. We look forward to returning next summer. "

- Barb B.

"While traveling through Arizona last Summer on vacation we happened across LaPosada and your wonderful resteraunt. There are not words to describe what a wonderful meal we had there. We were made to feel welcome like we were regulars. The staff and service excellent. The food above outstanding. It was the number one dinning experience of our trip. If we are ever anywhere near Arizona we will be staying at LaPosada and eating all our meals there. Thank you very much. "

- Chuck & Bridgett R.

"Chef Sharpe and La Posada, Every chance we get during my annual trek to Pine, AZ for a priceless visit with my Mom, I look forward to our stay or visit with you. From the earliest days of the incredible transformation of La Posada, the results have been nothing less than miraculous. Thank you for breathing life into this unique and beautiful piece of southwest history! And thank you for sharing your exquisite talent and experience in your book! "

- Brion O.

"I had the pleasure of visiting your restaurant twice this year. Once in the Spring when I drove Route 66 and again this fall when I brought my wife and her sister and her husband during a fall vacation in Sedona. Both of my visits were magical. The ambiance of La Posada seasoned by the passing trains was a perfect setting to enjoy your wonderful cuisine. I have been fortunate to eat at a number of fine restaurants during my travels and yours is among favorites."

"Sometime soon I hope to take an Amtrak trip to travel the west with a different perspective. The centerpiece of the trip would be a stopover at La Posada and dinner at the Turquoise Room."

- Dee E.

"Happy Holidays to all of you. I have visited La Posada 10 times now, and will be back again this year. It is the best. Thank you for being there. "

- Stephen B.

"We spent three days at the La Posada. We were not even tempted to eat anywhere else. The food was fabulous. May husband got the dessert where majool dates were used. That was the best dessert I have ever eaten. Our mouths exploded with flavor. Thank you!!! "

- Whitney & Jeanette

" I took my wife to the Turquoise Room for her birthday last month and we had a delicious meal in a warm friendly atmosphere. Our thanks to the chef for making our experience delightful. "

- Randy S.

"Congratulations!!! You deserve all the recognition you are getting. You must be walking on air. Wishing you continued success in all you do. "

- Mary K.

"Our Phoenix car club has visited the Turquois Room every year for the past four years. We have been delighted with your cuisine and great service for our sometimes large groups. I for one, am looking forward to another visit in the coming year. Dining with you has been a rare experience for us all. "

- Barry O.

"We dined at The Turquoise Room for the first time this summer while on vacation from Florida. I was inspired to try your Squash Blossoms and Lamb Sampler platter after reading your email newsletter that arrived only hours before we were to have dinner. The food, the service, and the atmosphere were spectacular! It is easily one of the finest dining experiences I've ever had, and I have travelled extensively throughout the U.S, Europe, and a few other countries. "

- Kim R.

" A friend and I had Thanksgiving Day dinner with you and yours in the Turquoise Room. The meal was delicious and perfect in every way; our waitress ... assisted us in every way possible in a very timely and courteous manner. As I looked around at others who were dining as we were, there was an air of relaxation and enjoyment. Dinner was a most enjoyable experience and we had a day of Thanksgiving! Thank you. "

- Sharon O.

" John, my wife and I have been to La Posada and The Turquoise Room just after it opened and have been back a few times since . We are from the prairies in Canada and farm there and when we can get to Arizona for some R&R one of the best times are the Food and Experience with you and your Staff at La Posada. Again a well deserved Congratulations. "

- Vern & Roselin K.

"We are frequent patrons of your excellent restaurant and have recommended The Turquoise Room to many of our friends.  "

- Cy & Marjorie T.

"I wanted to take a few minutes to tell you how much we enjoyed our recent visit to La Posada and to The Turquoise Room. My husband and I have been guests at La Posada, since not too long after it was re-opened to the public. We have stayed in many of the rooms, Mary Colter, the Lindbergh Room and possibly the nicest room of all in the hotel, the Howard Hughes Room. The room with the fireplace is just the most wonderful experience! That is the one room we always put at the top of our "hope-it-is-vacant-when-we-want-it-list". Along with the entire Mary Colter experience is the wonderful experience we have had each time in your Turquoise Room and the food you have served. We have had the pleasure of dining at breakfasts, lunches and at dinners, several times over, and were impressed with each and every meal, their variety and their flavors. Your talents with food are nearly magical. "

- Dee P.

"Your food and service have always been Fantastico!  And i love every bite and morsels on the plate.  Nothing as good as your food.  Thanks for being around."

- Hoa N.

"A group of friends from Green Valley sort of stumbled upon the Turquoise Room earlier this summer (2009) and raved about the quality experience they enjoyed there when they returned to Southern Arizona. So when my friend Jane and I recently got as close as the cool White Mountains of Arizona (a 2-hour drive to Winslow) we had to make the journey to see what all the fuss was about at the old restored Harvey House "La Posada". Euereka! What a wonderful luncheon trip we had before returning to Pinetop. The food is truly spectacular! Jane had an Ivory Salmon dish that she felt was better than any salmon she had ever eaten (and at 88 years of age she eats salmon three times a week). I was amazed at the authenticity of the Crispy Carnitas, as the only other place where I have ever been able to find true carnitas made this way are on the street corners of Mexico where grunt food "Carnitas Vendors" serve up the best version of pork prepared this way that you could possibly imagine. How an Englishman from Yorkshire could possibly have duplicated this recipe is beyond my imagination. And the fab "pastel de elote" (corn tamale type dish) as it is called in South America was the perfect addition to the meal along with the great salsa served in a small side dish. Bravo! Chef Sharpe...you really know how to class up a trip down Route 66...with a meal nobody should miss. Thank you for moving to Winslow. We will return, as will the many people in Green Valley that are hearing of our wonderful trip. "

- MacArthur M.

" I am touting the hotel and particularly the Turquoise Room every chance I get.  All the ladies at the beauty salon were very interested ... "

- Donna E.

"My wife and I had lunch at the Turquoise Room today, 1 August 2009 and I must say, it was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, THE best meal either one of us has ever had! The presentation was spectacular, the quality of food was beyond the BEST and the service, EXCELLENT. Who knew, just a short 1.5 hour drive from our home in Pinetop, that we would find the most spectacular eating experience in Arizona or anywhere for that matter! Thank you and your staff...rest assured, you have our business and yes, we will make the drive just for dinner! "

- Dennis & Michelle D.

"I have had the pleasure of staying and dining at La Posada and The Turquoise Room many times now. The experience of stepping back in time is one that everyone should have at least once at La Posada. Your staff are wonderful and the food superb. I have brought many people with me on my journeys here and they have thoroughly enjoyed as well. Thank you for keeping this part of history alive and for all the hard work that goes into your cuisine. My husband and I will be sharing our anniversary with you in February. See you soon! "

- Kristen P.

" ...wanted to congratulate you on your Conde Nast Gold award. "

- Diane W.

" A few months ago I brought my mother-in-law, who's from Dublin, Ireland to your restaurant and inn. She's traditional in her eating habits, but devoured your food and just couldn't get over the tasty sauces served with her dish. She had never tasted a Margarita so I convinced her try one.

It put a smile on her face as she sat on one of the chairs near the fountain. She told me, eating at your restaurant and staying at the inn was one of the highlights of her life. Also the live music echoing through the inn was spectacular as well as the going on of the trains.
Thank you "

- Susan

"Hello, Just a line to say I purchased your cookbook some time ago. I tried the recipe for brownies--and because I need to be "gluten- free," I substituted the Red Mill gluten free flour and if the recipe calls for wheat flour I would have used the brown rice flour. I baked these for a dinner party--(not even testing the recipe first) and I had tons of compliments from my guests! The dessert was scrumptious! Yea! I love eating at the Turquoise Room because there are always menu items I can safely order! Do tell your prospective clients! "

- Marty L.

"My most sincere congratulations on the honors being bestowed on your restaurant. Personally, I don't believe there is a better restaurant ANYWHERE! And the cookbooks I gave as gifts over Christmas were a huge hit. ...Again, my congratulations on your well deserved awards. "

- Patrick J.

"My family and I continue to brag to our friends back home about the dinner we experienced at your restaraunt. We look forward to a return trip in the near future. It was one of the highlights of our trip to AZ. Friends are enjoying recipes out of the cookbook on NFL Sundays. "

- Don & Vicki F.

"I have only heard very POSITIVE comments on your work and the restoration. "

- Jim B.

"I drove from LA to Santa Fe Nov 08, and stopped at The Turquoise Room for lunch on the way over. Loved it so much that I stayed in Winslow on the way back, and had a fabulous dinner at The Turquoise Room. I bought your cookbook and love it!"

"I'm planning on eating there again on my drive to Santa Fe in a few weeks. Beautiful dining room and splendid food to match!"

- Sandy D.

"Congratulations! well deserved...will try to get up there this spring to check the lamb taster. My favorite meat! "

- Susan L.

"A few years ago I stayed at La Posada with my sister and a friend from Germany. We are all artists and truly appreciated what was happening to bring the life back to the hotel and restaurant. I had a goat quesadilla and loved it. I must admit I still look for it when we come through town and stop for a meal. We periodically pass through Winslow and always stop to see your changes and progress. We love the gardens and I particularly like to stand out by the train station and imagine how everything was in the heyday of arrivals. "

- Dikki H.

"Dear John and Turquoise Room staff, as frequent lodgers at the hotel and restaurant, we have recommended your wonderful restaurant to a number of friends. "

- Yara & Gerald P.

" My dining experience at the Blue Turquoise Room was simply sublime! It is November, and I still recall each exquisite morsel that I savored at dinner last April. As a decent vegetarian home cook, seldom do I find meals out worth any accolades, but the experience at the Blue Turqoise Room proved otherwise, even though it is not primarily vegetarian-oriented. Anyone who loves delicious food and a splendid place to stay (La Posada), as well as fascinating history and inspirational tales, must visit this inn and restaurant at least once in a lifetime! How I wish I lived closer to visit more often! "

...my wife and I drive from Pinetop almost every Saturday for lunch at The Turquoise Room.

We had Christmas Day Dinner at 1300 hours and I cannot begin to describe our dinner. The choice of menu items were FANTASTIC to say the least, the service, as always, was impeccable and the food....I have yet to taste anything like it! The appetizer platter was a sight and taste to behold. I had the Carvers selection, lamb and goose....the lamb was out of this world, the goose was beyond description, as was the stuffing/dressing. For desert I had the date walnut cake w/toffee sauce. My wife had the Scottish Salmon, I sampled it, I am not a big on Salmon but THAT was....well, I'm lost for words!

We introduced three of our friends, one being a world traveler to hike the various mtn. ranges, including Mt. Everest. He has dined at the best establishments the world over and I quote ‘I have dined at what I thought was the best but words cannot describe this dining experience!’ He owns a chain of pharmacies around Arizona and lives in Sedona....now he too, like us, will make it a point to drive to La Posada for lunch and an occasional dinner.

From the bottom of my heart, please accept the most heartfelt ‘Thank you’ for such a wonderful dining experience on Christmas Day, it made the special day just that much more special...

Have a blessed and Happy New Year, keep up the GREAT work! "

- Dennis & Michelle D.

" La Posada is a real refuge for us on our drives to Santa Fe from Los Angeles. The Turquoise Room has never disappointed us, and we love to relax in the lounge after a long day's drive. See you all soon. "

- John & Bonnie

" We wanted to let you know how much we enjoyed our stay at the Beautiful La Posada Hotel, and the wonderful, excellent dinner in the Turquoise Room.

Our stay, the meals, and the service, food and drink at La Posada was the best we had in many years. We have traveled many places, Including the George V, Paris, the Waldorf Astoria, NYC. and many other famous hotels/restaurants. La Posada and The Turquoise Room certainly ranks with them!

We will tell our friends about this ‘Jewel in the Desert’ and we will return as often as we can!

Thanks to everyone who made our stay fantastic!"

- Douglas W. & Ingrid S.

" Hope to see you all again this year--La Posada is one of our favorites. "

- Karen K.

" My partner and I visited your marvellous hotel and The Turquoise Room on a trip of a lifetime to Arizona in 2005. We will never forget the fabulous meal we had - my main course consisted of buffalo and elk meat as well as steak. And the fish course was brilliant. But praise also to La Posada for its ambience, location, and welcome. We loved the bar where we sipped margueritas, and the icing on the cake after dinner was watching the silver train stop on its way to Los Angeles. What a treat. As we live in Scotland we don't get to America very often but next time we come we are definitely booking at La Posada. Thank you one and all for your service and terrifically high standards. "

- Jackie S.-M.

"I enjoyed reading your newsletter."

"My wife and I enjoyed a one month vacation out west (we're from NY) mid-May to mid-June 2008. We stayed at the LaPosada overnight on the evenings of May 28th and 29th. We had dinner in the Turquoise Room on both evening and the food was delicious."

"[We had the same waiter] on both evenings and he was most enjoyable to chat with and he provided excellent service. Our time at the LaPosada was a pleasant and memorable experience."

La Posada Turquoise Room Scale Model"This past summer, I placed a 'LaPosada Hotel' on my garden railroad layout...One side of my G-scale LaPosada Hotel had a Turquoise Room. This model structure reminded my wife and I of your pleasant time in Winslow."

"Maybe someday in the future, we'll return to the LaPosada. At least it is nice to think about. The memories that we have of our stay and our dining experience at the LaPosada are priceless."

- Dave M.

"Just a quick note of thanks for the spectacular Lamb Posole last week. My friend & I opted for a to-go order, wishing for the luxury of time to sit & linger. Your gracious host (didn't get his name) set us up generously with several containers and all the accessories for eating on the road. What an amazing concoction! The balance was absolutely perfect. Thanks again; we look forward to a long, leisurely meal next time through. Thank you for the New Year's message and congratulations for all of the recognition which you and your staff deserve. The book is wonderful. "

- Pete M. & Fred D.

"My husband and I made a weekend trip of La Posada and Christopher Creek from Prescott last Spring. Our visit began with sipping a delectable martini while watching trains come and go. It was followed by a unique sumptuous meal of local lamb prepared various ways and served perfectly. Breakfast did not disappoint either with eggs and some of the most fragrant green chili sauce. "

"We also loved wandering around the building looking at all the art and artifacts so lovingly chosen. What a remarkable place. We will be back, but for two nights next time. "

- Cynthia.

"Several years ago, I was looking for just the right place for a staff retreat. We chose La Posada on the recommendation of friends from L.A. Not only was the hotel just perfect for all of us, we fell terminally in love with the Turquoise Room. Each morning we'd say we'd eat breakfast and then cruise until dinner time. Lunch time found us there, saying we'd eat a nice lunch and pass on dinner. Guess where we were at dinner? How could we pass it up? It's the most fabulous food at affordable prices, prepared with care and love. I think you should be rated five star, if you're not already! "

- Marty M.

"My husband and I have stayed at La Posada 3 times now, traveling from Massachusetts. When ever we travel out west we make sure to save a stop at LaPosada and have dinner for our Anniversary. Last year we flew into Phoenix as usual, but were running late getting to LaPosada and our children were nervous we hadn\t arrived yet for dinner. They had planned to pay for our dinner once we arrived. The staff at the Turquoise Room was amazing and actually checked on us to make sure everything was all right being so late. The dinner as always was amazing and the staff was so attentive. The service is impeccable. Congratulations and continued success and see you soon. "

- Angela & Paul H.

" We used to spend the night in our RV at Flagstaff. After stopping for lunch at the Turquoise Room for breakfast on our way to Santa Fe we fell in love with the La Posada experience. We now dry camp in the parking lot to maximize our exposure to the ambience offered by the fine dining, southwestern food and drink, and the fine service and friendly/professional staff. We bought the cookbook and prepare recipes for our friends.

The Turquoise Room has managed to capture the magic of Railroads, fine cuisine, a colorful history redolent of magnificent sunsets, wild and unforgiving geography around an oasis of Harvey House civililty.

We will be "Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona " on our frequent trips on the "Mother Road. " Goodbye Flagstaff-Hello Winslow. "
